Barstool

Bar stools work to two standards, and mixing them is the most expensive mistake in this category. Counter height is a 65 cm seat for a 90 cm counter; bar height is a 75 to 80 cm seat for a 105 to 110 cm bar. There is no adjustment that fixes the wrong one after the joinery is built.

Every stool here carries a footrest set 40 to 45 cm below the seat, because above roughly 60 cm of seat height a guest’s feet no longer reach the floor and the seat becomes unusable within fifteen minutes. Frames run from solid beech to powder-coated steel and aluminium, with backless, low-back and full-back options.

How many you actually need — and why the seats in front of the service point never sell — is worked through in our guide to how many bar stools you need.
